Honeysuckle Pink 18-2120 - The Color of the Year for 2011

Happy 2011!

It has been announced that the Pantone Color of the Year for 2011 is Honeysuckle - Pantone color 18-2120. It is a reddish pink - a child of the "mother color red... the most physical, viscerally alive hue in the spectrum" says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of Pantone Color Institute.

I like it but not as much as I favored last year's color of the year, Turquoise. The qualities associated with this color are courageous, uplifting, energetic; all fabulous for the beginning of a new year. A color that gets "you going in times of stress." Who could argue with all that? (Well, I think red might get me going a little more quickly -  but remember I am on a red kick lately.)

And, as seen in the Pantone Fashion Color Report Spring 2011, honeysuckle plays a predominant role in the fun and flirty category. The colors I would add as pairings to this honeysuckle pink would be navy, black, charcoal grey and or gold. (Of course adding an apple green goes to your inner preppy.) Any of these combinations will make a great addition to your stationery wardrobe.

EMU - An Egg of a Different Color

With the newest snowfall, today seemed like just the right day to crack open that EMU egg sitting in the fridge - if I could find the right tool. Attracted to the EMU egg due to its blueish green color ( a bit darker than the pantone color of the year), I paid the $10 for an egg that holds the near equivalent to 8-10 hen eggs (tad higher ratio of yolk to egg white than the average hen egg). It is about the size of a mango.

It was suggested to me that I use a hacksaw or blow it open thru a hole on each end. That sounds pretty disgusting to me so I did NOT opt for that method. In the end, a big old kitchen knife did the job - but I did "chop with intention!" The yolk is a bit lighter in color than the hen egg, it fluffed up a bit more than a traditional egg and it really was good (perhaps the butter). While the shell has an awesome color, I realize it might sound unappealing to the first timer. However, I can assure you that the taste is basically the same as a fresh hen egg. Next snowfall we do quail eggs - their shells have a really nice spotted design.

Turquoise Unveiled as Color of the Year

Pantone just announced the color of the year for 2010. It is turquoise, PANTONE 15-5519. And, after a tough 2009/08, what better color could there be to start off this new year? It is refreshing, invigorating and, as they say, so full of fantasy - it just takes you away. Hmmmm.... and just when we were all getting back to work.

So now I am dreaming of a layered beach invitation of turquoise, coral and crisp white and or maybe I'll go to cocktail party in turquoise and steel grey (sparkling accessories work here) or maybe I can pop a bit of turquoise into my ski attire (in my dreams is this one, in turquoise, from Bogner)

See what the experts at PANTONE have to say about it all.
