Pretty in Pink Paradise

We attended the Bat Mitzvah of a very special young lady last weekend. Not only is the Bat Mitzvah girl a star gymnast with great presence and poise but she is also a lover of pink. Hence, we were in the midst of a pink paradise. Everything was pink. And look at that cake! My photo is of the cake center stage - the better shot (top) is from the bakery who created this edible masterpiece - Pink Cake Box (www.pinkcakebox.com).

I've heard of Pink Cake Box before and now I was under the influence of their creation. See the photo below of the piece of cake served to the person to my right. Now look what I got - look at that fabulous pink bow. I felt like I won the centerpiece!

I Love Being Social with Smock

A big box arrived in my office today and it was filled with Smock's fabulous new social papers. I have been looking forward to this for a while!

Here are a few samples to look at and enjoy.

Thick bamboo paper, letterpress, fabulous colors and great design. Of course, these are spring boards for your
own creations.

Have a great weekend everyone!

In Search of Color - It's a Wrap

So, I have a new favorite color for my nails this fall. It is yummy like dark cherries and it has a glimmer of gold in it. I just love it! But, I had a problem. It was sold out everywhere I went. I even tried to get the girls at Blue Mercury to sell me the tester. Of course they couldn't - but they did let me test it on ALL my nails - just in time for a Friday night dinner on the town. Then they let me "test" the top coat too. So nice.

So, what is this black amethyst infused with a bit of gold nail lacquer? Well, it is made by NARS and it is called Tokaïdo Express (named for a Japanese bullet train so I've heard). It came out a few months ago. However, it is new to me.

4 stores later, I am a happy girl with my own bottle. My manicurist says the brush is fabulous. The other great news is that it is toluene, formaldehyde and DBP free - bad things for you. And, with all the talk about health care lately, with this polish, I feel like I am doing my part -- however indulgent and ridiculous that might sound!

Of course, at Orrganics I have some yummy velvet "couture bracelets" from Twig & Fig to wrap your special invitation with - one of which reminds me of Tokaïdo Express. See above photo - they call this color wrap "bing cherry slushy". Yum, yum.

Just a Bit More From Fashion Week

Okay, so Sunday's show - Thuy - Modern, Elegant and Fun.
I love the muted colors and the "laser" cut outs - don't you.

Above, a photo (courtesy of Getty Images) of the Tracy Reese show on Monday. Standing room only in this show - I was lucky to get a seat but not close enough to get my own decent photo. I love her clothes as they are fun and colorful. See the amparo blue...

And, a truly lovely show, Carlos Miele of Brazil.
Desert
Glistening
Water
Animal
Some words that come to mind. Violet, turquoise, tuscany...
And I love the "rope" detailing used on some pieces.

Finally, another word on GK Reid as promised. Backstage GK (the stylist for Thuy) gave me one of the runway bracelets that he designed ... see the clip below - it's a lot of metal! I will feel stylish and safe whenever I wear it. Thank you!

Lucky me! I saw fabulous colors and spring fashion trends, met designers and had fun again this year at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. -- More on that to follow, with pictures, especially on GK, stylist for the Thuy show, who gave me a really fab metal bracelet still hot from the hip and lovely show.

The colors below are what the experts see as the fashion color trends for Spring 2010 (click on the report below - lots of info/fun). Ocean and desert hues, sunrise... sunset. I am seeing a Turquoise note card complimented with a lovely Violet ink or maybe Pink Champagne with Amparo Blue...

9/11. A Day of Sorrow. A New National Day of Service and Remembrance.

This shot of Ground Zero was taken early this morning, September 11, 2009. Today we remember lives lost and broken eight years ago. Today we remember all the heroes of the day. Earlier this year, President Obama and Congress declared September 11 a national day of service; a thoughtful way to honor and remember.

School Lunches and Love Notes :)

And, it's back to school! Did I say "finally"? Just kidding. I could go another few months at least. But now that we are back to school I will be packing my kids' lunches pretty much everyday. I like to know what they are eating. They joke that "losers" take the bus and bring their own lunches but they rarely forget to grab it on the way out.

Truth be told, it would save $ if I let them buy lunch tomorrow but until our school lunch offerings change ala the "Renegade Lunch Lady" (/www.chefann.com/blog/ ), my girls will be schlepping their reusable soft colored bags (no vinyl or pvc used) and my son will take recycled paper brown bags (not great as they end up as trash). Our goal is also to have the lunches contain as much nutritious, locally grown food and "non-waste" materials as possible. To be sure, any notes I might embarrass them with will be written on pretty, recycled stationery/papers!

All in favor of updating The Child Nutrition Act and giving our kids real food raise your hand!
